AYURVEDIC MASSAGE
The Flame Tree Estate & Hotel offers excellent on-site Ayurvedic Massage for its guests, which can be booked in advance through the Hotel Office.
All our organic oils are created for us by Green Leaf Herbals, Sri Lanka’s pioneering health & beauty wellness company.
We employ two on-call, fully qualified Ayurvedic masseuses: Udaya Rajapaksha and Yamuna Jayawickrama. Both are trained in a full range of Ayurvedic practices, including Panchakarma and Abhyanga, as well as Reflexology, and have been practising for over 14 years each.
Their technique differs from that of a classic sport massage, which primarily kneads the muscles and skin. Instead, it relies on long, gliding strokes, using the fingers or hands to stimulate nerve endings and rejuvenate the skin; quicker back-and-forth movements to generate heat and enhance blood flow; and specific pressure movements to target muscles and joints.
THE ABHYANGA OIL MASSAGE
This classic ayurvedic massage focuses on manipulating energy fields by applying pressure to the skin rather than just the underlying muscles. It helps detoxify the body, improve circulation, release muscle tension, and reduce stress, and is especially good for nourishing the skin from head to toe.
The full cost of this 60-minute treatment, inclusive of oil, is LKR 18,000 .
THE CHOCOLATE MASSAGE
Delicious in every way, cacao (chocolate) essential oil is more than mere aromatherapy. The oil’s omega-6 fatty acids boost natural collagen production and firm up the skin, whilst its antioxidants combat free radicals from UV rays and pollution and, by stimulating blood flow, promote cell renewal and repair. However, you may find that, by smelling so good, you could be later eaten by one of Sri Lanka's native toque macaque monkeys, who love cacao pods so much that they store them in their cheek pouches for later consumption.

THE PAINKILLER MASSAGE
Chilli oil, the key ingredient in this massage treatment, harnesses the powers of capsaicin to help reduce pain, inflammation, and skin irritations. The oil’s warming properties have long made it a popular relaxant for treating conditions such as stiff necks, backache, and muscle cramps. It is also often used to relieve pain associated with arthritis and rheumatism, whilst its high Vitamin C content can soothe wounds and regenerate skin.

THE TURMERIC & COCONUT MASSAGE
A nourishing, protective and healing massage that channels the anti-ageing and detoxifying properties of curcumin (in turmeric) and lauric (in coconut). Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties can reduce inflammation and protect skin cells from damage, whilst the lauric acid in coconut oil hydrates the skin but, by virtue of its antimicrobial properties, can also protect and heal it, by neutralising harmful bacteria.
